Research & Planning - Props, Costume & Make-Up

A couple of weeks ago I went to my local supermarket and bought some Halloween props to help us with our trailer, to make it look realistic and scary.

Fake Blood

This fake blood is mint flavoured, so our Zombie extras will not have any discomfort while wearing the make-up, it's also really sticky which makes the fake blood look realistic.

Fake Loose Limbs

Green Make-Up

This will make the Zombie extras skin resemble to the undeads skin tone.

Halloween Make-Up Set

Help to add some shade & shadows to the zombies extras, wound victims and protagonist

Research & Planning - Film Title

I have created a new Word Cloud for our Film Title, I tried to think of words that relate to Zombies & Apocalypses. Here are some Film Title Ideas:-

  • Quarantine Zone
  • Northern Walkers
  • Doomsday In Manchester
  • Fear Itself
  • Humans Vs. Walkers
  • Soulless in Manchester

Research & Planning - Zombie Aid 2010

In 2010, I went to a Zombie Aid in Manchester where get to pretend to act like a zombie for the night, causing havoc and mayhem (Not really, but it was really noisy and scary) all around Manchester. I managed to take some photos during my time there, these photos will inform us on what type of zombies we will see, what the make-up looks like, what type of clothing they are wearing etc.

Research & Planning - Storyboard

On 3 pieces of paper, we created a 14 grid-lined storyboard. This helps us to outline and plan our trailer, how much content we will need and how to structure it. Used iMovie, we took photos of each grid and made them into a video, as if it was our film trailer.

Unfortunately we were unable to include sound onto our draft trailer as we were running out of time and had to finish off other blog posts. As soon as we go back to college after the holidays we will be able to include sound and effects ASAP.

Research & Planning - Production Company Name & Logos

Horror film companies tend to use dark colours and shades to give their logo a dramatic affect. So I am going to try my best to do the same thing without Production Company Logo.

'You Murderer' Font

'Nemo Nightmares' Font

'Shallow Grave' Font

'CSNPWDT' Font

'VTKS-Skulls' Font

I download my fonts from '1001 Fonts' and 'Dafont'. I prefer the 'You Murderer' Font better than the others so far, It gives me a scary feeling when I look at it as the text looks like it has be written in blood.

Research & Planning - Group Meeting 3: Film Production & Distributor Names

We have officially decided on a Production Company name which we have all agreed on, so our company is called........

Undead Productions

We will be testing out different fonts for our Logo nearer the time.

Unfortunately we haven't come up with a Film Title yet, but after creating our storyboard we think it will be easier to pick one as the trailer will have been planned out then.

Research & Planning - Ideal Locations

I had a look at Google Maps for photographs of local areas that look were over-crowded, ancient and had overgrown greenery.

We was thinking of filming a quick scene in Manchester, showing what people are doing their everyday activity before the apocalypse.

Arndale Centre

Arndale Centre
Piccadilly Gardens

These next locations will look like a zombie apocalypse has hit the local area as they will be deserted and also look like ruins due to the crumbled buildings and overgrown plants & grass.

Hyde Park

Hyde Park

Edward Street

St Lawrence Road

Tame Street
When I am on the half term holidays I was thinking of travelling to these locations (with the group if they are free, or we could go separate do to our personal time schedules) and take some photographs, they will help us to plan our storyboards and we will be able to check if we can get permission to film in these areas, before filming the trailer.
